Long time coming
Mar. 17th, 2007 10:49 am Once again you'll find that I'm a terrible person for not updating my journal. I'm sorry, seriously...it does pain me. I can promise a full update on my latest travels to NYC and of course some icons.
First of all...I was tagged my Steph so...
RULES
Each player of this game starts off with 10 weird things/habits/little known facts about yourself.
People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 10 weird habits/things/little known facts as well as state this rule clearly.
At the end you need to choose 10 people to be tagged and list their names.
1. I collect movie stubs. Seriously, I do and I get upset when I don't have them. For example my mom lost the stubs to Children of Men. I liked that movie...a lot, and now I don't have the stubs any more.
2. I often say 'bane of my existance' when I talk about things I don't like. I figured this out in NYC when we were up very late into the next morning.
3. I have every single U2 album and generally I like all of them. Overall I have nearly 200 U2 songs (that's a lot).
4. Every christmas my dad gets me a Beatles album, he also does this for birthdays. They usually end up being my favorite gift (except for the camera...I love my camera.)
5. I recently realized that I want to write a novel about Robin Hood. Don't ask me why, I just do. It would be from Marian's side of the story.
6. My hiccups are obnoxious and they take a long time to stop. My friend actually ran away from me once cause I was scaring her. The only ways to stop them are to a. spit on a rock (learned this from the Swiss) and b. gurgle water with my head tipped back.
7. I only watch a few shoes but I am obsessed with them. I need to watch them and I always enjoy watching them. This makes a DVR amazing.
8. Two of my pets have weird hair names. Luckily, we didn't name them. One of our dogs is named Curly, he's a dalmation and has no curly hair. But at one point it was him and two other dogs whose names were Lary and Moe. We got the dog named after the stupid stooge. We call him CJ. One of our cats is named Kinky. I DID NOT name him this. It is often taken to be wrong but IT DOES MAKE SENSE AND NOT IN THAT WAY YOU PERVERTS. Yep so...weird names.
9. I love show tunes or songs from movies. I therefore have four full soundtracks and several songs from other movies which include: The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, Back to the Future, Superman Returns, Moulin! Rouge, and a bunch of others I can't remember off the top of my head.
10. I tend to do all the sports that no one else does and all of which aren't considered real sports. I hike and I cross country ski...name five people you know that does that and I'll think you're amazing. If you do these I'll just be impressed.
NYC
So I went to New York City with a bunch of people from the school newspaper for a conference at Columbia University. It was a lot of fun and we made it home early due to the snow. There were three particular events that I found to be a lot of fun.
Number 1: We walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, had dinner and then some of us walked back. (The people that walked back had the most fun). When we were meeting up with the other people we saw a light shining from a building and were joking around and were like "hey maybe they're filming a movie". So we asked someone and as it turns out they were filming the last episode of the Sopranos. Very cool. Please note I have never watched the Sopranos. But since we were all cool and everything we followed the light until we were in the spotlight. There we noticed several things, there was a truck that said Aerial Water (meant movie type things) and someone followed a homeless man only to see him go into a truck filled of food. So the guy wasn't really homeless. And then we walked to the edge of the block only to see a bunch of fake snow which meant that the Water truck was there to make the ground wet so that it could look like there was real snow. It was pretty sweet. The climax was when we were on the edge of the street and didn't realize that we were standing next to the main character who was getting directions from the director. I got a picture of him from the back, I probably shouldn't have had it but I realized this after. Finally we saw at the very end of the whole escapade them actually filming it (though we had to get pushed back a lot).
Number 2: One of the little conferences was about book reviewing and the guy that spoke was a reviewer for USA Today. It was really interesting but he had a bunch of unpublished manuscripts. At the end he let us go up to get them (there were more people than books mind you). I ran and got one! It was from the author of The Kite Runner which I guess is supposed to be a really good book. So I scored, and I started reading it and it is really good. The crazy part is that the author lives next to my dad's best friend who lives in San Francisco. Talk about a small world.
Number 3: The last night in NYC we stayed up really late (about 5 of us) in the hallway and talked until three in the morning. It was a lot of fun and was basically a lot of bonding time. Two of us went to sleep (at 3) while the other three stayed awake and never went to bed. I had a ton of fun and am overall very glad I did so. Yey!
Icons!
So I made some James McAvoy icons from the Penelope trailer and I also made some Frodo icons. Enjoy. If you take be sure to credit and host!
