The BBC's Merlin amuses me. I have no idea why, because the historical/mythical accuracy was just, ah, forgotten? I dunno. It would have been cool to see some of Mary Stewart's Merlin Trilogy come to life but clearly that wasn't their aim. Instead Uther hates magic (which is weird because he USES MAGIC TO IMPREGNATE IGRAINE WITH ARTHUR, with the help of Merlin of course), Arthur is a bit of a tool (which is also weird because I'm pretty sure he grew up thinking he was an orphan and not well born), Morgana is Uther's ward (could still turn out to be Arthur's half sister, then again can the BBC do incest?), GET THIS SHIT: Guivivere is half black, a servant, and Morgana's servant (ummm...there isn't even a SINGLE similarity with anything I've ever read...and I've read A LOT OF King Arthur).

The dialogue is slightly modern day, stuff like 'thanks' and conjunctions...at least they all have accents though. Yeah it's crazy crap but it amuses me, so I iconned it.

Nice, I particularly like #s 17 & 19.

the historical/mythical accuracy was just, ah, forgotten?

Intentionally set aside apparently. According to some posters on DrWhoforum some of the bits (like Uther having a dragon beneath his castle, and possible Morgana being a good guy) come from earlier versions of the stories.

Merlin being younger than Arthur and the slash!dragon are a bait for the fangirls.

I'm not sure whether or not it was Uther, but there are myths dating back to ages in which there were two dragons fighting beneath the castle and that was why the fortifications were weak and tended to crumble. One was red and the other white - Merlin was the one who found them - and they each marked an era, I believe the red dragon one, hence the 'pendragon'.

And I'm very pleased they made Morgana nice, perhaps a writer read The Mists of Avalon or something (although I wouldn't say she's nice, perhaps just more understandable and human).

It's mostly Guinevere that bothers me, and I was always really fond of the innocent/foolhardy Arhtur of the Once and Future King and the like. Oh well, we'll see what happens.

I also find it ironic that Nimueh wants to kill/revenge herself on Merlin because she's the one that imprisons him in an oak tree and sort of...seduces/falls in love with him.

I understand that: I was fairly disgruntled week 1 because of the changes to the legend. Then week 2 overwhelmed me with it's awesome slashiness and I forgave all.

We have innocent/foolhardy Merlin instead - which is novel. I'm now trying to guess which bits they'll keep, eacetly what they'll do with Merlin - Nimue being the most interesting atm.
