From AP and our friends at Houghton Mifflin: NEW YORK – An early, long-unpublished work by J.R.R. Tolkien is coming out. “The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun,” a thorough reworking in verse of old Norse epics that predates Tolkien’s writing of “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, will be published in May by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. According to Houghton, the book will include an introduction by Tolkien and notes by his son, Christopher Tolkien. J.R.R. Tolkien, whose fantasy novels have sold millions of copies, died in 1973. “The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun” was written in the 1920s and ’30s, when the author was teaching at Oxford University.

*DIES OF HAPPINESS*
Not only is this Tolkien (who I love, adore and probably worship just a bit). It's NORSE MYTHOLOGY. *spazz* I just hope...it's more exciting than the Silmarilion because WOW that book was impossible to read.

My only question is how come no one else is spazz-tically excited about this? Or am I just not looking closely enough. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE READ TWILIGHT.

yesterday. I made theonering.net into a syndicated feed on my LJ...so I get all Tolkien related info. But really, this is SO AWESOME, how come no one is talking about it?!

I'm not much of a Tolkien person (idk, I just could never get into it?) but that is very, very cool.

Aw I understand. I'm a total geek for it. I actually LOVE the intense descriptions that so many people seem to hate (and it shows, I have an IRRATIONAL love for description). I also photo-copied the maps and followed their journeys as I read. Totally proud of it.

I couldn't get through the Fellowship of the Ring a few years ago, but I've bee thinking of trying again now that I'm older. Because it's definitely something I would like, I think. I just have so much other stuff to do atm. Tackling Lord of the Rings isn't the best idea right now.

And around the same time I couldn't get through that, I also had issues with Gone With The Wind, which I'm also thinking about retrying.

Hmmm...je ne sais pas. It's because no one's talking about. I was talking to some friends today while we were eating lunch and they were all "...he's dead..." BUT CLEARLY they don't understand that so much of Tolkien published stuff has been published after he died...due to his son Christopher. *shakes head* I'M STILL EXCITED.
